The size of the data stored on the source disk or on the image doesn\u2019t matter.<br \/>\nFor instance, if the system image is created from a 500 GB disk containing only 100 GB of data, the required target disk\u2019s size must still be at least equal to or greater than 500 GB.<br \/>\nIf the size of the target disk is equal to or greater than the source disk and you\u2019re still getting the error, follow the next method.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>2) Change the minimum required size<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When you create a system image, the minimum required size of the target drive is automatically stamped in the file, $PBR_ResetConfig.xml. It shows that even if the actual size of your target drive is greater than or equal to the source disk, but lesser than the &lt;MinSize&gt; value, you may encounter this error.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If this is the case, edit the value of the <em>&lt;MinSize&gt;<\/em> attribute. For this, open the <strong>system image file<\/strong> &gt;&gt; <strong>sources<\/strong> &gt;&gt; <strong>open the $PBR_ResetConfig.xml<\/strong> file on a notepad, look for &lt;MinSize&gt; attribute, and change the value.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>3) Remove the source disk if restoring to an external disk<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Remove the source disk before the system recovery if the target disk is connected to the source system to prevent any conflict.<br \/>\nWhen you do a system restore, the external disk is assigned the same ID as that of the source disk. If both disks are connected to the same system, a conflict may occur and hamper the restoration process, prompting the error: \u201cUnable to recover your PC. The System drive is too small\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>4) Delete volumes and format the target drive<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At times, you restore the system image to a used disk that already has partitions. If you\u2019re getting the error while trying to do so, delete the existing partitions and format the drive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>[CAUTION]:<\/em><\/strong><em> Doing this will delete all the data stored on the used disk.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">a) Connect the used disk to a system.<br \/>\nb) Press Windows+R and type diskmgmt.msc in the dialog box that opens.
